The school morning felt routine—hallways buzzing with chatter, lockers opening and closing, phones lighting up with notifications. Sunlight streamed through tall windows, painting the floor in familiar patterns. Everything seemed ordinary, calm, predictable.
And yet, Alex always stood out.
Seventeen, in a wheelchair since birth, Alex had long accepted that school wasn’t a place for safety. Laughter followed him, whispers carried cruel nicknames, and mockery had become a constant backdrop. Over the years, he had learned to hide his reactions, to protect himself with silence—but inside, the sting never faded.
The Encounter
That day, Alex wanted nothing more than to reach his classroom unnoticed. But fate had other plans. Rounding the corner, he saw him—the bully who had haunted his life for years.
—Oh, look who’s driving around in his “car,”—the bully sneered, stepping closer. —Afraid of me?
Alex lifted his gaze, steady:
—No, I just don’t want to see your disgusting face.
The smirk widened. —Missed you. Time to make you cry like back in fourth grade.
—I will not cry. Don’t even try.
A crowd had already gathered. Phones were raised, laughter bubbling before anything happened. Alex tried to stay calm, refusing to feed their amusement.
