Intense Police Search in Rio Rico Tied to Nancy Guthrie Case
A normally quiet neighborhood in Rio Rico, Arizona, erupted into chaos this week as law enforcement swarmed a modest home in the ongoing search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC’s Savannah Guthrie. The dramatic scene drew national attention and raised new questions in the high-profile disappearance that has gripped the region for nearly two weeks.
Authorities moved in after receiving a tip suggesting Nancy might be inside the residence. The homeowner, Josefina, told CNN she fully cooperated with officers.
“They had somebody give a tip that the lady was in my house,” she said. “I told them you can go in and search my house, there is nobody there. I have nothing to hide.”
Josefina confirmed that her son-in-law, Carlos, was detained during the search but strongly denied any connection to Nancy’s disappearance. She also noted that officers showed her surveillance images from Nancy’s home, asking if the masked individual resembled her son-in-law. Her response was firm: “No, it doesn’t look like him.”
The search became more intense when officers reportedly broke down the door while Josefina was away in Tucson. Electronics were seized, suggesting investigators are now exploring digital evidence as part of the investigation.
