What to Know About Bowel Cancer Symptoms and Early Detection

Less than two months before his passing, James Van Der Beek shared a message that now feels especially powerful: “You can have no symptoms and still have cancer.”

Those words underline a critical reality — colorectal cancer often develops quietly, without obvious warning signs. And by the time symptoms appear, the disease may already be advanced.

The results were life-changing.

Despite feeling well after the procedure, his doctor delivered the unexpected news: cancer. Van Der Beek later described going into shock upon hearing the diagnosis.
