Roughly a year before Khamenei’s reported death, Trump signed an executive order designed to impose “maximum pressure” on Tehran. According to reports, the order granted U.S. authorities broad powers aimed at deterring aggression and strengthening national security safeguards.
While expressing hope for a peaceful diplomatic solution that would allow all sides to coexist, Trump also delivered a stark warning regarding potential threats to his life. He stated that any attempt by Iran to assassinate him would result in overwhelming consequences for Tehran.
In remarks made during discussions in February 2025, Trump declared that if such an attack were carried out, the retaliation would be decisive and absolute. He emphasized that specific instructions had already been left in place to ensure a forceful response.
“They haven’t done that, and that would be a terrible thing for them to do. Not because of me — if they did that, they would be obliterated. That would be the end. I’ve left instructions; if they do it, they get obliterated, there won’t be anything left. And, they shouldn’t be able to do it,” Trump said, according to media reports.
