The Ultimatum That Changed Everything
At thirty-four, I thought I had everything figured out—career, independence, and a life that didn’t need anyone’s approval. My days were structured, predictable, and entirely my own.
My parents saw it differently. To them, success meant little without marriage and family. Every visit turned into the same conversation, the same concern, the same pressure wrapped in “love.”
Then came the ultimatum.
If I wasn’t married before my thirty-fifth birthday, I would be removed from the family inheritance completely.
It wasn’t about the money. It was about control. And something inside me refused to accept it.
A Reckless Decision with a Simple Goal
Out of frustration, I made a decision I never thought I would consider. If my parents wanted a husband, I would give them one—just not in the way they expected.
The idea was simple: a legal arrangement, nothing more. A practical solution to a ridiculous demand. I just needed someone willing to play the role.
That’s when I saw him.
A man sitting quietly on the street, overlooked by everyone else. Something in his expression made me stop. Not pity—just recognition of something human beneath the surface.
On impulse, I made him an offer: marriage in exchange for stability, shelter, and financial support.
He didn’t hesitate long. He just nodded and said yes.
