Earlier in June, during an interview on Good Morning America, Dane shared the first signs of his illness. “I started experiencing some weakness in my right hand, and I didn’t think much of it at first,” he explained. After consulting specialists, he received the heartbreaking ALS diagnosis in April 2025, forcing him to step back from his acting career.

Despite the challenges, Dane devoted himself to raising awareness and advocating for ALS research. In September 2025, he was honored as Advocate of the Year by the ALS Network, recognizing his tireless efforts to bring global attention to the disease. Though he could not attend the gala in January, the award was accepted on his behalf by Broadway actor Aaron Lazar, who is also living with ALS.

Dane’s family released a statement confirming his passing:
“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS. He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world. Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”
Even in the face of illness, Dane’s impact was profound. His advocacy, openness, and courage continue to inspire people around the world, proving that his legacy goes far beyond the screen.
