When Malti Marie Jonas arrived, she came into the world with a fight in every tiny breath. Born extremely premature—three months early—Nick Jonas, 33, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, 43, faced a nearly four-month-long battle to keep their newborn alive. It was a moment filled with fear, hope, and unshakable love.
The couple welcomed Malti via surrogate in January 2022. At the time, they shared the happy news with a simple statement on Instagram: “We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate. We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family.” Priyanka later opened up to British Vogue, explaining that medical complications made surrogacy a necessary step. “Our surrogate was so generous, kind, lovely, and funny,” she said, “and she took care of this precious gift for us for six months.”
Malti’s early arrival was intense. Weighing only 1 lb. 11 oz., she was smaller than her mother’s hand. Priyanka recalled holding out her palm for comparison, amazed at how fragile her daughter was. Nick described the scene: “We got to the hospital, and she came out purple. The NICU nurses—these angels—resuscitated her, intubated her, and stabilized her in minutes. We were just standing there, holding our breath.”
