When Jimmy Kimmel took the spotlight at the 2026 Academy Awards to present Best Documentary Feature, everyone knew sparks could fly. Known for his sharp critiques of President Donald Trump and the administration, Kimmel had never shied away from taking aim at the former POTUS.

Melania in the Spotlight
With Melania Trump releasing her documentary, Melania, earlier in January, all eyes were on Kimmel. The film, funded by Amazon, followed the First Lady’s preparations to return to the White House in 2025 after her husband’s 2024 election victory. Despite a $40 million paycheck for exclusive access, the documentary struggled critically, holding a 1.5/10 rating on IMDb, and ultimately missed an Oscar nomination.
The Joke That Landed
Kimmel didn’t disappoint. On stage at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, he quipped, “There are also documentaries where you walk around the White House trying on shoes.” Then, pointing at the situation, he added, “Oh man, is he gonna be mad his wife wasn’t nominated for this?” The audience erupted with laughter, proving Kimmel’s timing remained razor-sharp.
