Early Thursday morning, Corewell Health Beaumont Troy in Michigan erupted into chaos when reports of an active shooter turned the hospital from a place of care into a scene of terror. Located about 24 miles north of Detroit, the hospital immediately locked down as staff, patients, and visitors scrambled for safety. The incident began around 7:00 AM, shattering the routine calm of arriving staff with the sound of gunfire and urgent warnings.
Targeted Attack Leaves Employee Injured
Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an internal dispute between two employees, not a random act. Authorities report the suspect fired at least five shots, striking a 25-year-old male employee twice in the arm. Other rounds hit a nearby vehicle. The victim was rushed into the hospital where he received emergency treatment. Officials confirmed his condition is stable and non-life-threatening.
Rapid Response and Lockdown Measures
Corewell Health’s emergency protocols kicked in instantly. An automated “Active Shooter” alert warned staff and the surrounding community to shelter in place. Inside the hospital, employees barricaded doors and huddled in darkened rooms. Witnesses described the surreal experience: arriving for work only to find police rifles drawn, officers moving through parking garages, and coworkers urging them to stay hidden. Nearby schools were also placed on lockdown as a precaution.
