TikTok Mom Suffers Severe Brain Injury After Cosmetic Surgery – Family Seeks Answers

A tragic situation involving a popular TikTok creator has raised serious questions about patient safety and cosmetic surgery complications. A 47-year-old woman from Ohio suffered a catastrophic brain injury following a cosmetic procedure she hoped would mark a new chapter in her life.

The woman, Rachel Tussey, had built a social media following of more than 73,000 people on TikTok, where she often shared personal updates and family moments.

Final Video Before Cosmetic Procedure

On February 25, Tussey posted a short video to her TikTok account while sitting in a hospital bed, telling her followers she was preparing for a “mommy makeover,” which included a tummy tuck procedure.

In the video, she said she was excited about starting a new phase in her life and asked supporters to keep her in their prayers. She also expressed confidence in the medical team handling the surgery.

Sadly, the video would become the last message she shared online.

Husband Says Surgery Was Initially Reported as Successful

Days later, Tussey’s husband, Jeremy, shared an emotional video update through her social media account.

He explained that after the procedure, the surgeon informed him that the operation had gone well. Jeremy said he could hear his wife speaking from the recovery area while he spoke briefly with the doctor in the hallway.

According to Jeremy, when he entered the room, Tussey appeared to recognize him and responded when he touched her arm.

However, he soon noticed something was wrong.

Her face began losing color, and her lips appeared blue. Concerned, he tried calling her name several times but received no response.

Medical Emergency in Recovery Room

Jeremy said medical staff quickly began performing CPR, and emergency services were called.

Tussey was transported by ambulance to TriHealth Bethesda North Hospital, where doctors determined that she had experienced a prolonged lack of oxygen.

The oxygen deprivation reportedly lasted more than six minutes, leading to a severe anoxic brain injury, a condition that occurs when the brain is deprived of oxygen long enough to cause widespread cell damage.

Doctors later informed the family that she had suffered irreversible brain damage.

Life Support Decision

In updates shared online, Jeremy explained that doctors confirmed his wife had been declared brain-dead.

A GoFundMe page created to support the family later stated that he made the extremely difficult decision to remove her from life support.

Tussey was transferred to hospice care, where she remained in a vegetative state while her body slowly began shutting down.

Jeremy, who shares three children with Rachel, later thanked supporters for their messages and financial support during the family’s difficult time.

Family Launches Legal Investigation

The Tussey family has retained a lawyer to investigate the circumstances surrounding the medical emergency.

Attorney Bernard Layne explained that anoxic brain injuries occur when the brain is deprived of oxygen for several minutes, leading to permanent damage. According to medical experts involved in the case, the injury is irreversible and there is currently no path to recovery.

The family hopes the investigation will provide clarity about what happened during the recovery period following surgery.

Surgeon Responds to the Incident

The plastic surgeon who performed the procedure, Dr. Shahryar Tork, released a public statement expressing sympathy for the family.

He said he was deeply saddened by the situation and emphasized that the operation itself was completed without complications.

Dr. Tork also clarified that the surgery was not performed at his private practice but at an independently owned outpatient surgical facility.

According to his statement, Tussey had been successfully extubated after the procedure and transferred to the recovery unit in stable condition. He said she was awake and speaking with her husband before the unexpected medical emergency occurred.

The surgeon added that he later returned to assist medical staff when her condition suddenly worsened and has since stopped performing procedures at that particular surgical center.

Growing Conversation About Cosmetic Surgery Risks

The heartbreaking case has sparked discussions online about cosmetic surgery safety, medical monitoring after procedures, and potential complications associated with elective surgery.

As the investigation continues, many people following the story are hoping for answers about what led to the sudden medical crisis after what was initially reported as a successful operation.

The family says their focus now is honoring Rachel’s memory while seeking clarity about the events that changed their lives forever.
