Sydney Mom Charli Worgan Shares Her Journey of Parenthood and Genetic Challenges

Most couples have been asked when they plan to have children, but for Charli Worgan and her husband Cullen Worgan, the question is often “why?”

The Sydney-based couple both live with different forms of dwarfism, which has brought public attention, especially when Charli became pregnant with their first child. After welcoming their daughter, Charli decided to start a social media account to share their family life and educate others. What started as a personal project quickly grew—her Instagram now boasts over 300,000 followers.

Pregnancy Amid Genetic Challenges

Recently, Charli announced she was 14 weeks pregnant with her third child—but the announcement carried both joy and heartache. Due to their genetic conditions, Charli and Cullen’s children face four possibilities:

  1. Being of average height
  2. Inheriting Charli’s form of dwarfism, Achondroplasia
  3. Inheriting Cullen’s form, Geleophysic Dysplasia
  4. Inheriting both types, which medical professionals say would be fatal

Because of these risks, Charli has undergone intensive genetic testing with each pregnancy. At 12 weeks, instead of celebrating like many expectant moms, she faced a Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) procedure—a needle through the abdomen to test the placenta, carrying a small risk of miscarriage.

She candidly shared the emotional weight of waiting to know: “I was waiting to find out if I could bring this little one into the world come March 2021, or if his or her journey finishes here.”
