A Valentine’s Lesson in Love, Communication, and Respect
Valentine’s Day can be magical in unexpected ways. That year, my boyfriend surprised me with a reservation at one of the city’s most elegant restaurants. Soft music played in the background, candlelight danced across the tables, and the warm, romantic ambiance set the perfect tone. We laughed, talked, and simply enjoyed each other’s company—it felt flawless.
Then the bill came.
It was more than I expected, and he casually suggested we split it evenly. I hesitated. After all, the evening had been his idea, his invitation, his choice of restaurant. I gently explained that I wasn’t comfortable splitting the cost in this case, since I hadn’t been involved in planning.
The mood shifted slightly, though no words were raised. He quietly paid the full amount, stood, and left the table. I stayed for a moment, questioning whether I had been too firm or simply honest.
