Tributes have poured in from across the nation. Former President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, praising Jackson as a “good man” and “a force of nature.” Trump highlighted his support for Jackson over the years, noting efforts to assist the Rainbow Coalition, back criminal justice reform, fund Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and champion Opportunity Zones.
Trump also made a controversial claim, suggesting Jackson was not a fan of former President Barack Obama. “Jesse was a force of nature like few others before him. He had much to do with the election, without acknowledgment or credit, of Barack Hussein Obama, a man who Jesse could not stand,” Trump wrote, adding condolences to Jackson’s family. Neither Barack Obama nor Jackson’s family has publicly responded to that specific statement.
